LIVE OLDSCHOOL TAPE: Slick Rick, Doug E Fresh, DJ Holiday, Mike C, Rob Base, Devasatin 3 - Lincoln Projects 1984

Photobucket

Heres another goodie this time Side A. Slick Rick makes one of his very first live recorded appearances, accompanied by Right hand man Doug Fresh he performs La-di-Da-di & Treat her Like a prostitute from what I suspect as one of the first times live...since it is 1984 thats gives a clue of such an idea. Also theres an MC Showdown with all star Mcs Rhyming Over Donald D's "Dons Groove" Later on in the tape. Doug fresh and the get fresh crew do their thing, Theres a lot of beat boxing. Rob base comes on for one of the first time & rocks out. Side B Has Mighty Mike C From the fearless four solo rocking rhymes from Rockin It, Fearless Freestyle, Problems of the world, some Baby Rhymes & Something Exclusive "Strawberry cream" And DJ Holiday Is On The Cuts. All At Lincoln Projects 1984. This is areally dope full tape Both Sides.

HARLEM WORLD CREW: 1982 MC CONVENTION Featuring CHARLIE ROCK, SON OF SAM, DJ RANDY, BUSY B, GMC, WHIPPER WHIP & More.

Photobucket

Heres a Full tape I havent seen on the internet anywhere yet. Yet Im Almost Certain Though someone has already uploaded This somwehere in cyber space. Never The Less I am bringing yall a dope tape thats In my opinion one of the Best Live recordings in Hip Hop history. This here is The Harlem world crew hosting a MC Convention in 1982 and out of all This is one of the few tapes where I always felt like I was actually there at the party enjoying the show. The hype man thing here is before its time (as far as hip hop goes) and This is to say the least what a real party is...DJ Randy cutting up a bunch of real dope records. Side A Features Busy B with the usual party hype thing Going On & Doing His Call Outs. Stellar Rhymes by Son of Sam, Charlie Rock tearing it up. GMC & Whip Hop On Stage and Join The Fiasco, They Just letting the party people jam. On the Flip side B has the novice Mc Display with some cool talent. EC Who does the famous Line "Dip dip dive so socialize, my gym teacher makes me excercise" Rocks his rhymes plus sings. 60 Minute Tape In Its Entirety...Enjoy

Jazzy 5 Live @7th Anniversary Zulu Nation BX River Jam (ROUTINE OVER U.F.O In 1982) (Audio RIP From Tape)

Photobucket

This Is A Trim Out From The Whole Tape Which Features The Jazzy 5, Bam, Jazzy J, MC Globe Etc...This Was 1982..I Wanted To Share This Because This Song/Routine Out Of The Whole Performance Was My Personal Favorite So What I Did Was...I Trimmed A Snippet Out Of Just This Routine, I Even Enhanced & Fixed The Audio A Bit To Sound Fairly Well On A Loud System & Since Many Of You May Know This Was A Low Tape & Very Hissy Its Justified...The Jazzy Five Do Their Thing Over E.S.G's UFO...I love Any Zulu Routines They Always Just Set A Futuristic Funk Kinda Flow. However I Think A Routine Over UFO Was Def Very Cosmic & Set A Gritty Tone For Bboys, Poppers & UZN Members, Staff & Artists Alike, Besides The J5's AJ Les, & Mr Freeze Absolutely Killed It..The Call Out/Responce "Whats The Name Of This Nation" Has Just Always Been One Of The Dopest Concepts Ever & Crowd Commanders...If Im Not Mistaken I Think There Exists A Few Other ZULU Chants Over UFO Including Busy Bee's Version.. But Anyway This Routine Presented Here Comes On Toward The End Of Side A Of The Entire Tape Itself...Enjoy

Also Bonus From The Same Tape But On Side B Toward The Middle/End Is A Dope Beatbox Vocorder Joint That ZULU Played Pro Either Bam Or Jazzy J While Djing Live..It Doesnt Have A Name & Wasn't An Actual Record But Has That Futuristic Funk, Bambaattaa Sound. I Also Slightly Enhanced This A Bit Too...I WIll Post More Soon From Zulu Very Very Soon, Check Back

Oldschool Archives Blast#12 "Body Rock 2 The Beat"

CULTURE, HISTORY AND THE MUSIC!

From the desk of DJ Leggs:
Whats Up Y'all, last time I brought yall a boat load of rare classic goodies. The response was such a great one from there im back Once again for blast #5. Fellow DJ's, MC's, and everyone else I am bringing you the "OLD SCHOOL ARCHIVES BODY ROCK 2 THE BEAT" Blast. What I have done was hand selected some seminal mostly 808 banger "HARD HIP HOP SOUND" records from a collection of my personal records spanning from around 1983- 85 or 86. These are some of the Rap records When I heard them i just had to share them. I hope you enjoy these joints. Some DJ's may have them some may not. Hit me with some feedback and as always rock rock on. Keep in mind, There's also a few electro joints I just tossed in...

PHAT SHOUTS TO ALL MY PIONEER BUDDIES, T-LA ROCK WUT UP, MY BOYS THE FEARLESS FOUR...PESO, MIGHTY MIKE C, DEVASTATIN TITO "ALL Y'ALL", MY MAN SCORPIO FROM FURIOUS FIVE, MELLE MEL, UTFO's KANGOL, DR ICE, REGGIE REG "THE AMAZIN CRASH CREWWWW" LORD YODA, GRANDMASTER CAZ WHAT UP BIG MAN. DJ ROCKIN ROB, THE B-BOYS MY MAN DJ SRATCHMASTER G, DJ AFRIKA BAMBAATTAA, FLYEST BOOSKI (infinity rappers) ALMIGHTY KG. COLD CRUSH 4, TONY TONE "STILL NOT LEAVIN THE GIRLS ALONE" DJ JAYCEE (herculoids), MY GIRL SPARKY DEE (Its been awhile spark holla at me)

The following records are mostly 808 based with that hard "HIP HOP" sound we fell in love with. The drum machine did us greeaat justice in helping "cultivate" what we came to adopt as our urban identity of music. though there are a few other diffrent ones in there too not so much 808-ish, im throwing yall a bunch of joints y'all should be spinning. This era of sound is when Hip Hop was really picking up as a more wide spread commercial phenomenon, and I mean The rap part of hip hop because we are speaking about the "music"Tours came more prominent and the artist were starting to live that lifestyle of the "entertainer extroadinaire"....So Ive grabbed a bunch of sounds from 83 to around 86..Enjoy these. I try to share some joints that arent the normal norm you kno meeee!

Oldschool Archives Blast#10 "Summer Time Disco Rap Classics" (Disco Rap Blast#2)

FROM DJ LEGGS::

Whats Up Everyone..I know many of yall have been waiting, I Feel I Deserted My Greater DJ Community, supporters & blog partners. Its Been Busy Seasons .I Have Had In Mind To Do More Oldschool Archives Throughout The Last 3 or 4 months. Its probably been about since October or December Concerning My Last Blast. Anyhow Im Just going to let yall dive in and dig in...Please add me on facebook..Its www.facebook.com/djleggs & twitter @djleggs. DJs Lets Go strong and support each other. This is my contribution. If anyone is looking for specific record message me and I will help you out...I also have an insane BREAK BEATS Collection too Ive been digging for the past 2 or three years digitally and All types of dope obscureties as well as general favs. Back In The days it was the duty of the dj to find these import record stores or mom & pop shops and really egt down & dirty into the archives of what the store owner had. If you notice there were soo many obscureties that were discovered, you ahd to really have your ears open. The 70s & 80s was a HOT BED for all types of music & emerging culture.

DJs find it, play it. As For Me I Knew the name of sooo many songs back when I staretd but there was a far larger number that I didnt know the names of up until probably 5 years ago. I knew the general and the classics but I had yet to really get into the nitty gritty of The Breakbeat & Hip Hop culture "UNDERGROUND" I Hit a nitch of how to colelct Digitally once I got intune with the internet DJ world 7 things started springing up better then the BP Spill. I Have found nearly all things I thought I wouldnt because I didnt know the names of, singers or whatever. Thats Song title is Not always the Key, The Key is just knowing maybe a verse, a chorus or something small and you can extract it from cyberspace. Vinylly I was well endowed from the start but now thanks to this OLDSCHOOL ARCHIVES thing Ive created something Here online thats propelled my collection & my networking to help others...

GET READY FOR THE ACTUAL BLOG WEBSITE TO HIT SOMETIME THIS SUMMER OR TOP FO FALL..That way yall can just get an email and wooop woopp hit that blog and go crazy....I Guarantee You Family, when you see the titles of the records I've prepared for you your going to be taken on a memory lane That is if your remember these & Even if you dont your gonna love em for your oldschool parties..Better Yet When you listen to them Your going to deifnately want to throw on your lee cut off shorts, striped tube socks & Pumas. Throw some gazelles on & A Tank Tee & Walk the Sunshot streets As your snappin your fingers to the funky BEAT this summer (Gee Man "CRASH CREW) WHO HOOKS YOU UP WITH THE BEST RARE CLASSICS? I Went Waayyyy Back On This one & Im Not Talking Even 86 or 87...MANY OF YALL ALSO MAY HAVE THESE RECORDS. Now When We speak of oldschool this is oldschool. OK ON WITH "NOV/DEC" MUSIC

"BEAT THIS"

SOME OF THE BEST BATTLES/ RESPONSES EVER CAUGHT ON WAX
"The battle" The biggest Piece of Hip Hop artistry. Since day one Its was understood that to be the best at what you do you had to have a performance. You had to be able to stand out and you had to be seasoned. Weather you were a writer, an MC A B-boy "COMPETITION IS TRADITION" Some great MC's were caught up in scuffles that often went from live to being recorded because either the record labels thought "Hey this is a great idea for people to hear these battles between this one or that one" People would eat this up. Everyone loves to see a good battle. Hold up 1 sec before the advent of pressing these battlles on wax and the whole media hype thing, the battle was already in full bloom. The live throwdowns and some of the most fierce never even being recorded extended as far back as 1977. So what I did was go through a few of my archives and picked out some battles. Theres plenty more out there but these are just a few. Also included below are some bonus "LIVE BATLES" Enjoy

Note: I personally think that in terms of today a bulk of the diss records or battles that go back and fourth are a waste of time. Many of these battles go out on mixtapes, live mixshows or online and fizzle out quite fast. Many of the battles are by people we really dont care to hear from. Theres just wayy too many battles, I think of it almost as watching the bouts before the actual "FEATURE FIGHT" Only we havent seen a "FEATURE FIGHT" Probably since Jay & Nas, Jada Biggie & Tupac & Sigel and a few others..Ide love to actually see Jay & 50 go at it. I totally agree with KRS one on the opinion pole thing by the people or the Live TV Battle, and of course the Pressing of this fight on wax would be dope too because It will Allow collectors, DJs etc to have this for nostalgia and would also bring us back to the actual "ON WAX" era. Of course the internet will blow this up as well for digital mediation. A Jay & 50 BAtlle by two heavyweights of this caliber is Hip Hop all the way. Ok now on with the music.

Afrika Bambaataa & The Cosmic Force - Cosmic Punk Jam.mp3 (This record is extremely rare. The cosmic force's punk jam which is another hard to find heard rarety on tommy boy records 1981..it's got that true zulu cosmic sound & Bam truly mastered that robotic stuff. ahead of its time) You might flip when you hear this..I actually should be hung for sharing this how rare it is and I found it online with hours of looking for the perfect beats. I came across it purely accidental while back.

Zero Hour - The Dark Side.mp3 (See if this one sparks your memory lane)

The Micronawts - (I Can Do It You Can Do It) Letzmurph Acrossdasurf.mp3 (DOPE!!)

Man Parrish - Man Made.mp3 (Everyone knows hip hop beebop but do you rem this joint..off the album "Man Parrish" and was an import only" maaaaaaaaan maaaaade

I dont think this record every gets the shine it should know adays the joint is Hard!

Magic Mike Crew - Magic Mike Theme.mp3 (RARE' NEVER HEARD BEFORE I FOUND IT BUT TRUE RECORD COLLECTORS NEED IT)

G-Force Featuring Ronnie Gee Captain Cee - Feel The Force.mp3 (Nice electro classic)

B+ - B-Beat Classic.mp3 (This is one of them joints you rem or know the sound of but not the name. This record also featured an inst and a "rock your own rhymes" version where MC's can use to rock thier own rhymes..check it its the Bee Beeaat to the Bee beat classic yall)

IM GOING TO GO OUT OF THE 1983-88 BOX AND JUST THROUGH IN SOME CLASSICS THAT YALL WILL ALSO ENJOY LETS BRING IT UP A FEW YEARS SAY 1989 TO AROUND 92 THIS ISNT A SEPERATE BLAST JUST ME GOIN OFF...

Whiz Kid & Jazzy Five MC's Live @ Harlem World 1980.mp3 (Whiz kid R.I.P. This tape features The Jazzy five zulu nation rock rock on..I have this whole thing on tape and will be sharing it..So Its coming momentarily) the infamous harlem world club where it all went down for Busy B, Treach 3, F5, Fearless four, the harlem world crew (dj ronnie green, holiday, son of sam, charlie rock, mc smily etc) Harlem world was the mid ground for a hot bed of this 'sub cultural phenomenon" and broke alot of Hip Hop's stars to some of the main audiences of the downtown scene. It wasnt until around 82 or 83 when Cool lady blue (who managed rocksteady and some other groups & befriended Fab 5 Freddy) started the whole roxy/hip hop thing and helped fully expose The culture to other genres of people who enjoyed rock, new wave and punk..It was like reaching a nother planet when people witnessed rapping and cutting and niggas going down on the floor at the roxy and places like danceteria, negril and the funhouse. Cultures exploded.

OLDSCHOOL ARCHIVES #7 "FEATURED RARETY RECORD"

READY FOR THE MIND BLOWER? MANY PEEPS DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT "VAUGHN MASON & CREW" BEYOND "BOUNCE ROCK SKATE" WHICH WAS THIER BREAK OUT & MOST POPULAR RECORD THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH THIER ONLY HIT. BEYOND THIS A FEW ATTEMPTS AT SUCCESS WITH SONGS LIKE "JAMMIN BIG GUITAR", "CRAVIN YOUR BODY" AND A FEW OTHERS DIDNT QUITE ENJOY THE SUCESS AS BOUNCE ROCK SKATE .THEY HAD A ONE ALBUM WHICH FEATURED ABOUT 8 TRKS OR SO CALLED VAUGHN MASON & CREW BACK IN 80 OR 81. PURELY DISCO BOUNCE ROCK FUNK. LIL DO MANY REMEMBER OR KNOW. THEY ALSO DID A RECORD FOR THE B-BOYS AND HIP HOP FANS CALLED "BREAKERS ANTHEM" ITS VERY REMINICENT TO BOUNCE ROCK SKATE. AND IN ACTUALITY WAS THE SMART THING TO GARNER THE CONCEPT FROM BOUNCE ROCK SKATE TO TRY AND KEEP MOMENTUM WITH WHAT WAS GOING POPULAR AMOUNG THE DANCERS & DISCO-ERS AT THE TIME..ENOUGH SAID ENJOY THIS RECORD. I CAME ACROSS IT ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND I NEVERRRRR HEARD OF IT BEFORE..AND I WENT NUTS WHEN I HEARD IT..AGAIN SOME OF YALL; KNOW THIS ONE...PLEASE ID'E LOVE TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS HIT ME WITH FEEDBACK

Oldschool Archives Blast#1 "Rareties Edition #1"

OK ITS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE IVE SHARED MY COLLECTION OF RARE OR PIONEERING RECORDS WITH THE DJ COMMUNITY. WELL IM BACK! OLDSCHOOL ARCHIVES IS A LIL SOMETHING I PUT TOGETHER ALMOST A YEAR & A HALF AGO THAT SHOWCASES MUSICAL GENRES WITHIN HIP HOP TIMELINES. THIS ALONG SIDE HISTORY ABOUT THE MUSIC AND OR ARTISTS AND ALSO OF COURSE SHARING THE ACTUAL TRKS...

WE COVER ANYTHING FROM DISCO RAP, TO ELECTRO, TO ALL IN BETWEEN. CHECK OUT WHAT I HAVE FOR YALL THIS TIME. IF YOU WERE RECIEVING MY MUSIC BEFORE WE DID A FEW VOLUMES OF DISCO RAP ERA WHICH IS REALLY THE ORIGINAL DEFINING START OF WHEN HIP HOP RECORDS WERE FIRST PUT ON WAX AND THE ERA OF RAP ON RADIO AND VINYL. THE WHOLE PARTY SCENE AS WE KNOW IT WAS HAPPENING LIVE AND THEN RECORDED...THERE WEREN'T REALLY A SOLID "HIP HOP" SOUND IN TERMS OF THE BACKING MUSIC, IT WAS LIVE HOUSE BANDS OF FUNK & DISCO OR MUSIC CREATED IN THAT REFLECTION. MANY OF THE MUSIC WAS ACTUALLY MIRRORS OF ACTUAL TUNES AT THE TIME WHICH WAS DISCO DRIVEN. ACTUAL BREAK-BEAT FAVORITES CUT UP BY THE DJ & RAPPED OVER BY THIER MC'S WERE THE FOUNDATION. HIP HOP HAS ALWAYS BEEN HEAVY ON SAMPLING AND BORROWING SINCE DAY 1. HIP HOP MUSIC AS A MORE DEFINING GENRE STARTED WITH THE "ELECTRO FUNK ERA" HOWEVER THE ARTISTS WERE INDEED CREATING HIP HOP AS COINED BEFORE THEN. ON OLDSCHOOL ARCHIVES WE ALSO DID SOME "ELECTRO CLASSICS"AND THEN A BLAST CALLED "TO THE BEAT YALL" WHICH WAS REALLY MUSIC AND AN ERA WHEN HIP HOP MUSIC WAS BEING SET ASIDE AS NOT JUST A TREND ANY MORE. WE WERE EXPOSED TO THAT GOOD OL 808 SOUND, FUNKY DRUMS, SNARES, KICKS & SAMPLES & SCRATCHES. THE RECORDS WERE MAKING MORE SALES, BECOMING A MARKETABLE ENTITY AND IT WAS THEN CONSIDERED A LEGITAMATE GENRE OF MUSIC IN SOCIETY (AT LEAST TO OUR GOOD OLE PUBLIC EYE OUR BELOVED MEDIA HAHA)

SOME OF THESE I HAD TO RIP FROM MY PERSONAL VINYL COLLECTION YALL AND JUST FOR YOU! AND I HAVE PLENY OF MORE BUT THIS IS FOR NOW.

WELL HERE WE ARE WITH......

"OLDSCHOOL ARCHIVES THE RARETIES #1"

SOME OF YALL MAY HAVE THESE RECORDS BUT CERTAINLY ALOT OF YALL MAY OF MISSED THESE. PARTLY BECAUSE THESE ARE HARD TO FIND OR WERENT EXACTLY AS BIG AS SOME OF THE MORE MAIN STREAM RECORDS BACK THEN. NEVER THE LESS THIER SIGNIFICANCE WITHIN THE ERAS OF 1980 AND UP ARE GREAT......THEN THERES SOME THAT ARE A BIT MORE MAIN STREAM, IM MIXING IT UP FOR YALL SO ENJOY.

"ULTRA RARE OR RARELY USED CLASSICS 80-85"
