@DJLEGGS "Jive Rythym Trax, More Jive Rythym Trax & Scratch Trax": Complete Collection

A Great collection from my vault, I have to admit. Up till very recently I did not know a whole slew of these tracks ever existed. I was always familiar with the Willesden Dodgers famous 122 BPM of course, Gunsmoke Breakout, The President Record and maybe one other. I never owned the complete vinyl collections growing up, Just maybe a one-off reissure of the 122 BMP On a single(Most common one)so I did not know there was 3 compilation albums of Various BPM Cuts put out both in 82 and 83. "Jive, More Jive & Scratch Trax" These are absolutely great for all enthusiastic DJ's everywhere, if you don't got em all' you need em all. Here they are. My Favs of course are the 122 (Again that most common one), and the 116 BPM (I) but they are all dope. Some of them more electro/Hip Hop than others which seem more Ambient or Breakbeat-ish. Great instrumental tracks. If you recall the "Willesden Dodgers" they were actually a three man team from The UK Who were a famous Breakdance crew out there and subsequently made records as well. Included here in this edition is 101, 118, 99, 102, 116, 114, 120, 122 and more (All from the first three Jive compilations). The Order of releases are "Jive Rythym Trax 1982, More Jive Rythym Trax 1982, and then Jive Rythym Stratch Trax dropping in 1983. Each containing about 6-10 songs each. Plus a few of those other regularly named singles off of the later release album "1st Base" from 1986 including Gunsmoke breakout, Not this President, Zero-G, Breakin-Out. You may want to check that album out too. When you get a shot. Back to the BPM's though; This is instrumental city for you DJ's, definately a must have with endless possibilities. Enjoy from ya Boy DJ LEGGS

The @DJLEGGS Celluloid Records Collection

This will speak for it self. I'm not even going to rant on this one largely. My Bad Syke I had to lol. Celluloid records was a great label back in the Turn of the 1970's and 80's that was known for putting out many classics and Now obscure joints Both Hip Hop/Electro as well as new wave. Most of Celluloid cuts were famously played at the NYC Club the Roxy and Hip hop DJ's who broke them there. Records by the Smurfs, Phase II, Bambaataa and Timezone, Fab 5 Freddy & Beside, Bernard Fowler, The Grandmixer D.S.T., The Rebels. Material did much of the production on these records for Celluloid. If they weren't Hip Hop Or Electro, they were post Punk, New Wave Orientated. Do You Remember Material? You may want to watch this wonderful Doc On you tube about Celluloid Records.

I don't want to speak about things I don't have much knowledge about on my own. This Doc will do the trick, so when you have a clear 20 minutes, watch the Doc please. Bill Laswell a very talented early Hip Hop, Jazz & Pop bassist/producer and The Grandmixer D.S.T himself speak extensively about the French derived Celluloid History. In The Meanwhile Download My Personal Collection Of Celluloid Hip Hop & New Wave Classics (Note: I have not uploaded every record in my collection but many of them) I cant give ya'll everything as I have many of the extended versions, 12" and 7" Versions. But I am sharing a great wealth of these. I hand picked these for you guys. But please Do your own digging as well. Find the other cuts that you would find on the original 12"s or 7's. The Timezone "Wild style" Version here is the Original Rap version with Artists Motivator and Beside as well as Bam of course Rapping. But Ive included the other known Dub version as well. The Phase II Joint here you will notice, I have included the regular (No French rap) and then the Original Mix. Which It was the very first version I ever heard on cassette, back then before I bought the Vinyl record eventually. And I forgot all about it, even when Downloading the main version a few years ago. The French mix slipped my mind. I just found it and Caught a little case of Dejavu. I said Man How did I forget this version. This is what happens when we sometimes lose sight of our Vinyl roots momentarily due to all this internet stuff today. We might forget about the alternate versions supplied on the good Ole' twelve records, when they become digitally obscure online. Unless you still have the 12" and refer back to them, or just purely remember those versions, you tend to forget them sometimes. So I am so very Blessed and pleased to have found the original mix Version of Phase II's "The Roxy" with French MC "Beside" Rapping, as it is my personal favorite version. I also Have the 7 Version which is obviously edited shorter. If you like Email me for that. The Same Beat was used For production in 2 of the releases. As you may of noticed long ago. Material shared the same production for two completely different song releases, with the Likes of the Smurfs for "Do the smurf for what its worth" and the Rebels "You can make it". They used to do this often back in the day for various reasons. Most likely to see which version would catch on. I am also sharing the The A & B Sides of Fab 5 Freddy's " Change the beat". One has the french rap the other does not, its important to have both. Ill explain later. Of course you get the D.S.T.'s Mega Mix. I've included the short version and the longer version with the Intro and the spliced together outro's of other popular releases. As you download my collection, you will hear many of the actual regular songs D.S.T Used to splice together the Megamix for Celluloid that may of not been familiar with previously if you do not have history with owning Celluloid classics. Also Not to mention back to Change the beat. That extremely famous "THIS STUFF IS REALLY FRESHHH" outro Included on the Change The Beat B-Side Version made famous by a vocorder voice effect at the very end of the record by a Guy Named Roger for Celluloid at the time. All You DJ's should know that Famous Sample used for scratching your intros and in DJ Battles" and if you didnt know where it came from, now you do. It is one of the most used segments for 30 years now by DJ's all over the world. Check the end of the B-side version. Anyway make sure to dig in and download every single track Y'all.

Download the @DJLEGGS Celluloid Records Crate (23 Songs)
(Note: I didn't post each track individually here on this post as you can see, You can find the complete list once you click to download the crate on My Box.com account. Below are a few sneak peaks

The Original Version of Phase II's The Roxy With Beside rapping In French.

Material Uses the same Production for The Rebels as he does The Smurfs

Keep in mind the "Praxis" records, these were joints I remember on a few old cassette Hip Hop tapes and never knew who the hell these songs were. It wasnt until the last few years Ive been able to come across this stuff by mistake. So To great Avail, I've been able to do some cloud snooping and have finally find these cuts in their Mp3 entirety..So here they are as promised I love to share. I think you all will enjoy the Ultra-Rareness (If that is even a word) of this edition to Old school Archives. I may even have the greatest blog on the planet for Rare Old school Hip Hop on the low. Anyhow We Call this one "ULTRA RARE ELECTRO CUTzZz" Get ready

Praxis - NBS-X
Praxis - Electro Shock
Praxis - 1984
Willesden Dodgers - More Jive Rythym Trax (116 BPM)
Gifted 4 - The Arrival
Automation & Family Quest - Outer Space
Automation - Electro Rock (ULTRA RARE)

Now fellow DJ's and music lovers. Here is just a few sounds of what greatness awaits you. I've listed two sneak-peakers here. Get a load of these, and Be Electrified by the True Flava Of Real Rare Electro
This Track By "Automation" I Know many of you may remember a UK Group by the name Automation, who churned out a few Euro-Electro Jams back in the mid 80's. And a big number of you do not, because they were an obscure group and unless you was up on your "Import game" You probably overlooked these groups Like Praxis, Or Willesden Dodgers or Paul Hardcastle.. We All Know Kraftwerk or Art Of Noise, But these other guys don't quite get the credit they deserve either. Anyway there was this Famous Breakdance Jam In UK In 1985, when Hip Hop exploded over In Europe. The London "Hippodrome" featured this Big Rappin & Breakin event Called Electro-rock In 1985 Hosted By DJ Mike Allen of Capital Radio. Electro-rock was released as a show on VHS and featured many of the (at the time) Well Known rap groups, And breakin crews out there in England. I'm not sure if it aired on Europe TV as well as just being a straight to VHS thing. It probably may have. Anyhow one of the songs on the soundtrack was by the group Automation called Electro-Rock as an Intro track (By UK's Automation) when It came on and as an outro song when the credits scrolled. featuring Afrika Bambaataa and the family (Jazzy Joyce, Lisa Lee, Lil Ikey C Etc) in their dressing room joking about the show. I don't think a 12" Vinyl was pressed for it but here is that track, it was remixed by A DJ. which is damn near close enough to the actual track which plays intro/outro to the showcase filmed. The DJ Who reconstructed this record and put it on line takes some of the famous Audio as you will hear for the Intro (UK Rappers rapping briefly, commentary from the Host Of the Jam and excerpts by Bam and the crew at the end). I think Its gotta be pretty much the same track if it were released on vinyl (Maybe minus some of the added voice overs), a nice reconstruction if you will since we can't seem to get this on Vinyl or cassette. But a really good job was done reconstructing the song never the less and it passed for being something my music collection could use and needed. With some screwing around as I do online. I found it finally and here it is. This jam featured many London based Hip Hop crews, break dancers as well as Our US Superstars who were invited out to perform and compete. Afrika Bamaataa, and family, Loose Bruce & Street Elite and more. I have been fortunate enough to have been able to extract this entire video off line in full Great MPeg TV quality with a DVD Menu added and burn it to a DVD, Through my secret diabolical efforts "Hee hee". Ultimately adding it to my extensive collection of classic footage. But If you want to view the entire event. You can view it in its entirety here.  It is truly a great program, full of invigorating history and Hip Hop excitement from across seas. For all You European Bboys, DJ,s and MC's this is YOUR History right here. I suggest you take an hr or two and watch it

Another Track I love is this 116 (I) BPM By Jive Rythym Trax. Now I know most of you should have the 122 BPM's which is the most common one that most people have heard, But as many of you again, are well aware they actually did a whole two or three compilation Vinyl with different songs centering whatever BPM's back in 1982-86. "Jive Rythym Trax" in 82 & then "More Jive Rythym Trax" & "Scratch Trax"in 83. I never knew there existed so many different BPM Songs by The Willesden Dodgers. Now this particular one in this blast, I've always wondered who or what it was before. I didn't even know it was a Jive Rythym Track, whatever it was I knew it was some rare, rare electro cut perhaps from over sees. I was right. I had this Afrika Islam Zulu beats radio show back in the day, I used to listen to recorded on Cassette and I heard it and always wanted this song. I just recently found out who it was by and what the song was via You tube. Most of the time I find these gems by accident and I found this purely by accident downloading all the other BPM Versions, I was like "Ohh Ok this is that song WOW" the best way To find stuff is by digging, inspecting, snooping. Accidents are beautiful sometimes. If you Look above, You will see I did a post exclusively on the Willesden Dodgers, Jive Rythm Trax" Compilations. Because I Wanted to share all the songs, You guys need these. so if you ain't got them. Pick up on them.

Hard-Rock Rap Rareties: Impacting 90's Street Records

Whats Up Yaaaa'll Its your friendly neighborhood "MP3 Web-slinger" And This edition of Oldschool Archives we are focusing on some cutting edge 90's Hardcore street rap records. real gritty Hip Hop from the streets. Music straight from our acclaimed "Boom-bap" era. If you havent glanced below, You might already assume what is going to be included in this post, however You might be surprised. Ive included some really dope 90's joints that yall will love and remember. As always, my intention is to bring forth those rare and sought after gems. The ones not always in the forefront. Understand that it was a crucial and wonderful time for Hip Hop in the early and mid 90's. Somewhere along the lines we lost that flare in the late 90's, I personally don't see the culture of Hip Hop gaining that traction back. The impact of the records, the artists and the flava that went into the recordings. Not to mention the industry, was an entirely different kind of animal back then. One that we certainly miss in many aspects. This is like our 50's and 60's Golden-era style of Jazz, funk and soul. In it, that you can hear that 90's Vintage sound and flava, even a great emulation, does not catch the groove of these joints. The vocals, production and recording is Classic. But Our Real DJ's and enthusiast keep this era alive everyday. This is that "stair-case rap", That street corner rap". So journey with us As we celebrate "HARD-ROCK RAP". If you cant get enough of this, dont worry. I will be following up another entry or two with some more, so take these for now. I have twelve bangers here. Peep for yourself and as always, You can download each track individually or click that magic "RECORD BIN" link Below to be transported to the entire selection. As always all tracks are the best quality that I could possibly find and are straight from my personal collection to yours, so you know I'm not playin'. I never skimp my DJ'and music fans and I never will. This is the hardwork of Web blogging and sharing, but I do this straight for you guys out there. The Fans of DJ Leggs & Oldschool Archives. Thanks for keeping the Boom-bap with me. Peace & Blessings. Enjoy

Classic Breakbeat & Oldschool Hip Hop Mixtapes: Straight From Leggs Collection

Whats Up Oldschool Archive Fans and Fanettes; I Finally decided to post this up, after months of promising this. I havent slumped on that promise at all. Here is a hefty bin of some of my most greatest Classic Mixtape collection You probably will ever see all in one shot on line. Held in my vault for many years. These are surely a blast from the past. I used to listen to these like breathing air, and even break to many of them dozens of times over, So I know them all well. Understand, that each and every mixtape here was actually converted from its original 60 or 90 Minute incarnation with Love, straight into a prestine 192 kbs MP3 File. Loud and as clear as Can be without taking away the authentic tape quality, but great enough to be played on systems fairly loud. In this addition to my hard work; you will find tapes by the Likes Of Mr. Magic, Afrika Islam, Kid Capri, Roc Raida (R.I.P.), Brucie B, DJ Schmoove, DJ Starchild (R.I.P.) DJ Chance, and a bunch of other Heavyweight DJ's who were lacing the underground with Breakbeat & Hip Hop mixtapes back then. All tapes range from as far back as 1982 and into the 90's when there was a revival of the oldschool Mixes by Breakbeat DJs of the 1990's. I am very fortunate to be able to have held onto these joints for so many years. I would of never wanted to see anything happen to the original tapes, so I just had to cart these bad boys into my studio and convert each of them. And I might add, I'm not done yet. I still have a few dozen more tapes to be converted, So you will be seeing future posts indeed. For now Dig into the download bin and enjoy the aroma (Or should I say sounds) of authentic real deal Oldschool Mixtapes complete with scratching, cutting, mixing. Attention: This is for the real Hip Hoppers. The Real DJ's and Music aficionado's and B-boys who appreciate this stuff. Legendary MC Group: Fearless Four "Club Slappa" **New Song & Video"

That's right Y'all my boys are still "Rockin it" after 32, 33 years..My Man PESO Slid me this record personally a couple of months ago in which he promised me that when I heard it I was gonna love it. He was right. I immediately had to place it On Hoodstrong Radio and playlists on several club nights across the country. Club slappa is every bit as hard biting as any club record of today. It's got a dope feel good club vibe mixed with classic oldschool flava but the four have actually managed to stay well in the times with ease...DLB, TITO, MIKE C & PESO Do their MC Thing for the 2012; you can bet that up. DJ's If you like the Record and If you support Pioneers who are still in the game and can smack the upstarts in the head with authentic Vicious rhymes of old and new..This is your contribution today. Rock this joint for us; "Club slappa" by The Fearless Four is not some wanna-be attempt record, this is real deal Hip Hop by all means. Peep the video above and you'll see

History: Fearless four was the first Rap Group signed to a major Record Label "Elektra Records" back In 1983 and released "Problems of the world" album on Elektra. Problems of the world was produced by Kurtis Blow, Davy DMX & O.C.. Just wanted to shed that tid bit, but that is something many people already know. If you did not know, now you do.

Also note that the TEAM FEARLESS has been hosting these really dope jams In NYC Lately which have been providing stage to all of the hugest legendary Pioneers giving everyone an opportunity to come together on one night, perform, politic, chill, take pictures, conduct lectures and interviews. I will get more info on that soon. When you watch the Club Slappa video it will have scenes from the shows of this year. I for one will be at the next one for sure. Tito from F4 Has just released his own autobiography and TEAM FEARLESS Has been releasing their line of clothing. Im proud to own a few T-shirts, these guys are just doing a whole bunch of good things man. Oh and look out for Leggs & F4 Collaboration very soon too. Me & Peso have been speaking on something including live shows, songs and more and We are working on somethings for 2013. I Will keep Y'all up to speed soon :) PEACE!

Rare Novelty Rap Records 1980's

Right out of the gate, the second Hip Hop records began being manufactured in 1979, there were already people creating "Novelty" songs with this new catchy music culture rushing in. Many of which were not Actually MC's at all maybe R&B Or Disco Artists Maybe soul singers. Its funny how in Rap music today seems like every damn thing is a novelty record with no real concepts just trendy talk, styles and Rhetoric. In plain English "There are mostly nothing but clowns in today's music" however of course with the exceptions of the great veterans still making music and a handful of really dope upstarts we still do get great music. I don't want you guy's to think I am totally biased. I am A DJ And I spin all the new stuff as well so I enjoy many of the songs coming out today. All in all, Hip Hop music though; gaining its debut's under small independent & subsidiary labels of the early 80's Record exec's really did not know how to take it. Was the music going to hit, was it going to be some small quick fading Genres like Punk Rock Or Disco, Should we really take a chance in these guy's and their music. This is what The record companies and managers thought. But they did see there was a catch to a great degree because it captivated the youth and young adults who happened to obviously party and buy music. So any chance to capture popularity and appeal to the greater consumer even with the use of Novelties, hey they went for it. But I want to point out the actual meaning of a "Novelty". A Novelty song is a song that may have or may not have a serious appeal or may not be considered to be taken serious enough, such songs usually have an often silly theme or are expected to have a fast in and out popularity length. I am in no way saying these following records aren't dope Hip Hop records, but What I am saying is maybe they are by Unorthodox artists or may even have silly themes and or followed a trending theme, not taking away from their legendary stance in Hip Hop music history whatsoever.

So this post is simply about Novelty records and not the main stream serious Electro and Hip Hop cuts we have come to know and Love. I have great respect for these records and actually listen to them very often and laugh about the creativity. That is why there is an article here on OSA. Most of these are going to be by artist many people have not heard of unless your DJ Game; is really up on Underground Hip Hop music of yesteryear or if you are a pretty serious Music fan who has done their research & collects all the cuts from back then. I would like to call the attention to a few joints I picked out that are rather on the back burner side. I'm going to hit Y'all with a few records that you may of or may of never heard before. I mean, you know very well what Old School Archives is about with the rare stuff and if you have any great Novelties you think might fit the genre of this post, drop me your Mp3's in my drop box. The widget is on the right hand side.

Here is the linx for all the records in this entire editions crate, But I have also included each song below with some brief commentary about some of them. Enjoy

Entire Download Crate: "Rare Novelty Rap records 1980s - Crate#1

(Individual Songs Included)

Rappin Duke - The Duke Is Back
"The return of the dukes, Da-Ha-Da-Ha only part two if you will, pretty cool and very funny record. Shawn Brown does his Usual Ponderosa rap slinging down MC's everywhere.

"One of the many Roxanne Answer & Return records this one actually featured her brothers getting involved and going at many people Mainly UTFO, and they flipped & rocked the record. There were more than 50 Roxanne Records floating around back then, so it's easy that this one may of  gone under the radar behind the main joints directly between Roxanne, UTFO, Sparky D, J.J. Fad and those people. Pretty interesting if you never heard it"

"Actually whats funny about this record is, it has a lot to do with the "Bad Boys" & K Love record" If you listen in the beginning of the Bad Boys Joint, It Features A Brief statement by Betty Boo (Actually supposed to be a rapping Betty Boop). I noticed that immediately and, this record was like a sequel/answer back song. Right away when I first heard this cut a few years back I knew it had something to do with the corresponding song, I remembered the distinguishable voice of Betty Boo. It features that signature Inspector gadget melody only differently revamped and also the similar sound effects of it's Bad Boy Counter part. This record dropped afterwards. Listen to the both of them and you will understand what I'm saying"

Futura 2000 & The Clash - The Escapades Of Futura 2000 "Rap Record Attempted By Graff Legend Futura 2000 & Rock Band The Clash, It has a more disco rap feel to it, I'm Not personally crazy about this song but again Novelty purposes".

Mr. Sweety G - We Want To Get Down
Kind of like a rhythm and blues disco rap kind of record. Very obscure, rare but Pretty cool though.

"Could this very well of been Roxanne's Little sister on the Mic? yet another Novelty joint".

The Pack Man - I'm The Pack Man
"Pretty Cool Electro Cut inspired by none other than the Arcade hit"

"Not even a rap record however it was a little known Electro R&B Cut that was pretty dope in my Opinion. May of not been a big record at all but I'm sure it had it's placement at parties and proms and other events. Came out around 82".

"Novelty Cult Electro Joint".

**Bonus Cuts**

For the bonus, I am including some extremely interesting cuts and these are by Musical legends who weren't even Rappers at all but who put their two sense into the Hip Hop world. The Dr. John's Jet Set had a video to it, around 1984 or 85 and Featured the Pianist/singer actually Rapping and The Other is By "Rufus Thomas" that's Right Mr. Funky Chicken himself. Now you wouldn't expect a rap record from an older soul funk singer, but in 84 that came as a surprise. Rufus actually did a great Job, and I have to laugh because he actually brought his A-Game, clowning many of the well established MC's In the game, but of course for fun..He proves that he can do this rap thing, and even refers to people not rapping just making noise. This one chimes in as "Rappin Rufus". Give these records aa liste nd you will have no choice but to bop and laugh. Its Hip Hop

Gary Bird & The G.B. Experience - The Crown Gary Bird was A Radio DJ personality with which he decided to randomly try this Rap thing out and put together a rather pretty good Disco Rap Record in 1983 I must say. Featuring Smooth Disco Style singing lyrics By The Gary Bird Experience's "Crystal Blake" & none other than Stevie Wonder sharing just a single verse (Stevie Wonder released the record on his label here in The US, and It was released On Motown In The UK) and Birds rhymes laid on the forefront. Gary Bird was known for actually rhyming his words on the radio air live.

"This is More 1970's Uprise Positive, Conscious Get up and do something kind of break beat by an inner city band..So this breaks my whole 80's mantra here, However this features Rhymes therefore it is a rap record by technical aspects. It dropped around 1974, Pre-Hip Hop Music espeically on wax But Its Hip Hop if that makes sense" extra goodie enjoy it.
